Anchor And Storm
17 August 2023

"Anchor and Storm" is a piece born from the reuse of a wooden board, its textured surface filled with remnants of glue and cut-up pieces, giving it a raw, imperfect quality that became an integral part of the artwork. I wanted to capture the tension between two opposing forces—the surviving hope within an anchor and the chaos of a storm. The storm, wild and unpredictable, rages by, with light breaking through the clouds as a symbol of hope, clarity, and life amidst the turmoil. The oxymoron of the piece reflects the core of its meaning: how can you be both calm and turbulent, both anchor and storm? You inspire me, yet challenge me; you try to drown me, yet I am constantly reminded through it how alive I am. The storm represents the unpredictable nature of existence, while the anchor is the quiet strength we find to hold on, even when everything around us feels like it’s crashing down. The contrast between these elements is what makes the piece compelling—the push and pull of life’s contradictions and the beauty that comes from embracing them.
