Finding
27 April 2023

"Finding" explores the intersection of life, death, and the passage of time through the image of a large blue skeleton figure. Traditional Mexican flowers bloom across its body, symbolizing the beauty and growth that emerges even in death. The skeleton's outstretched hand, reaching out to grasp the passing moments, reflects a deep yearning to hold onto time, as if trying to stop its inevitable flow. Embedded within the frame are numbers and two pocket watches—one of which is inverted and larger, emphasizing the distorted perception of time itself.
Time, a recurring theme in my work, is both a source of fear and fascination. The connection between Mexican cultural beliefs and the cycle of life and death is a central thread in this piece, illustrating how new life grows from the dead, and how death itself is not an end but part of an ongoing journey.
In this painting, I seek to capture the desperate pursuit to understand time—its passage, its weight, and its influence on our lives. "Finding" is about that ongoing search, an attempt to grasp something fleeting and unknowable, and a desperation to try to understand the subject further.
