Ocean Angles
01 June 2023

"Ocean Angles" marks my first acrylic piece at the beginning of lockdown, potentially as a means to escape the reality of entrapment within four walls through the ocean. The painting depicts the serene movement of jellyfish beneath the surface of the water, with light streaking through, creating a sense of depth and fluidity. I chose to paint on a poster canvas board, which, while smoother than traditional canvas, presented its own challenges. Particularly in mixing colors., the attempt to blend the same shade of blue over and over again without previous knowledge on how resulted in some inconsistencies, yet these moments of trial and error became an important part of the process. In trying to capture the perfect angle of the waves above, I couldn’t quite find the right reference, so this piece became my best interpretation of the movement and stillness beneath the surface. My fascination with the ocean remains something I can’t quite articulate, but it’s a blend of curiosity, fear, and admiration—feelings that intertwine as I continue to explore the unknown depths.
